Nagoya University Graduate School of Law takes part in the UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Day 2021

On December 15, 2021, Nagoya University Graduate School of Law took part in the UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Day 2021. A Workshop under the title "Bringing Arbitration to MSMEs. Academic and Institutional Initiatives for a More Accessible Arbitration" was held, under the co-sponsorship of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA) and the Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM). The event was attended by participants from all over the world, and the audience included representatives of UNCITRAL, accomplished arbitration scholars and practitioners, as well as students. After an introductory speech by Prof. Giorgio Fabio Colombo, Mr. Tony Andriotis (Partner at DLA Piper in Tokyo, and JCAA Professional & Institutional Relations Officer) presented about recent reforms in the JCAA Rules, and in particular on the "Interactive Arbitration Rules". Ms. Benedetta Coppo, of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration, gave a comprehensive overview of the initiatives the CAM undertook to make arbitration cheaper and more accessible. After a rich Q&A session, Prof. Dai Yokomizo, Vice Dean of Nagoya University Graduate School of Law offered some conclusions focusing on the importance of legal cultures in dispute resolution, and on the role of arbitration in access to commercial justice.

Mr. Hiroyuki Kada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice, visited GSL and held a round-table discussion on the theme of "Legal Assistance."

Mr. Hiroyuki Kada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Justice Japan, visited the Center for Asian Legal Exchange (CALE) Nagoya University and exchanged opinions on "Legal Assistance" with GSL international students from Asian countries and lecturer Emi Makino of CALE.First, Lecturer Emi Makino explained CALE's efforts for "Legal Assistance," with a particular focus on human resource development. At the same time, the international students talked about their motivations for studying in Japan, their current majors, and how they would like to utilize what they have learned at the GSL in their home countries in the future.It was also a significant opportunity for the international students to exchange their frank opinions about the future challenges of "Legal Assistance" and the policies of the Ministry of Justice Japan.https://www.moj.go.jp/hisho/kouhou/hisho06_00529.html

Graduate School of Law co-organized an international conference at the National University of Mongolia

The Graduate School of Law co-organized the Third International Conference on Fundamental Issues of Constitutional and Administrative Law on November 20 and 21 in Ulaanbaatar. The two-day international conference titled “Challenges in the Era of Crisis” was hosted by the National University of Mongolia, School of Law. The conference has been organized in a hybrid format as some of the speakers presented online. Over 20 speakers from seven countries along with 50 researchers, professors, and academicians from Mongolia took part in the conference. More than 6000 people watched the live stream online as this was one of the first international conferences held in the country after two years of pandemic-related restrictions. Seven Professors from GSL – Professor Sato Fumito, Professor Okochi Minori, Professor Saito Kazuhisa, Associate Professor Frank Bennett, Professor Inaba Kazumasa, Assistant Professor Nakamura Yoshitaka from CALE, along with Professor Emeritus Ichihashi Katsuya presented their research findings at the conference.

Dr. Dashbalbar Gangabaatar appointed to the Constitutional Court Justice in Mongolia

The State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia has recently appointed Prof. Dr. Dashbalbar Gangabaatar to serve on the country’s Constitutional Court from October 7, 2021.Dr. Dashbalbar was awarded his LL.M degree in 2005 and his LL.D degree in Comparative Law in 2011 from the Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University. http://asci.nagoya-u.ac.jp/news/detail.php?no=97

Graduation Ceremony Fall 2021

Graduation Ceremony Fall 2021 was held on September 27. Again, nine undergraduate students and twenty-four master students were awarded their degrees from the School of Law and Graduate School of Law. Mr. Pham Quang Hieu, a graduate of our Graduate School of Law, appointed as Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam

Prime Minister Pham Minh Ching of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam appointed Mr. Pham Quang Hieu as Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam in May 2021.
