From November 6 to 8th, 2019, Dean Suzuki made a business trip to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, together with some of his colleagues of GSL. The primary purpose was to attend the following four events.
- The Tenth Anniversary Ceremony of Nagoya University Uzbekistan Office in Uzbekistan
- A ceremony for doctoral degree conferment and the new entrance of the Asia Satellite Campus Institute (ASCI) A doctoral degree award was given to Mr. Alimajanov Sardor, who completed a program at ASCI in September 2019. We also celebrated the entrance of Ms. Abulkhasan Dilfuza Habibullaevna, who joined the ASCI's program from October 2019.
- Visit to Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) We visited the university and had a meeting with its executives. We thanked them for their support to the Center for Japanese Law Education and Research located on the university's campus and confirmed that the two universities would strengthen cooperative relations. We held a seminar on legal education and research in which many teachers and students of TSUL participated.
- The Tenth Anniversary Ceremony of the Uzbek Branch of the Nagoya University Alumni Association (NUAL Uzbekistan) On Friday, November 8, 2019, a commemorative seminar hosted by the Uzbek Branch of the Nagoya University Alumni Association (NUAL) was held at Charvak, a resort area located about an hour away from Tashkent. More than thirty alumni gathered for the seminar despite it being a weekday. All the participants actively exchanged opinions and information regarding the recent situation of Nagoya University and the graduates. At the same time, it was decided that the President of the Uzbek Branch would be replaced by Mr. Burhanov Akmal from Mr. Merganov Bakhodir (both are graduates of GSL). Mr. Akmal expressed his aspiration about future activities of the Branch and received enthusiastic applause from all the participants.
- Visit of President of Uzbekistan to Japan and Nagoya University
After the above business trip, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, came to Japan and visited Nagoya University on December 18, 2019. A ceremony to award an honorary doctoral degree to the President and his commemorative lecture were held on our campus. In the wake of the Presidential visit, a conference with the title "Uzbekistan-Nagoya Forum in Nagoya" was held at the Asian Law Exchange Plaza of GSL. It was co-sponsored by the Nagoya Uzbekistan Friendship Association, the Uzbekistan-Nagoya Academic Forum, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan, and GSL. In this conference, young Uzbek researchers who were researching in Japan gave presentations. These events symbolized the profound relationship between Uzbekistan and Nagoya University, including GSL.
